GALENA

Origin/History
Galena is a bittering-type cultivar which was bred in 1968 from Brewers Gold and an open pollination, i.e. an unknown male plant.
It was released for cultivation in 1978.

Agronomics
Moderate tolerance to downy mildew, Peronospera, and susceptible to powdery mildew, Spaerotheca. Good pickability of a medium-large cone.

Maturity: Medium
Yield: 2100-2300 kgs. per ha.
1800-2000 lbs. per acre

Brewing Quality
Used primarily as a bittering hop.

Alpha acids: 12.5-14.0%
Beta acids: 7.5-9.0%
Alpha:Beta Ratio: 1.7
Cohumulone (% of alpha acids): 37-42%
   
Total Oil (Mls. per 100 grams): 0.9-1.2
Caryophyllene (as % of total oils): 3-5%
Farnesene (as % of total oils): 0%
Humulene (as % of total oils): 10-15%
Myrcene (as % of total oils): 55-60%

Storability is fair to good.
