NORTHERN BREWER

Origin/History
Northern Brewer is a bittering-type cultivar, bred in 1934 in England from a Canterbury Golding female plant and the male plant OB21. Northern Brewer has been used in the breeding process of many newer varieties. This cultivar is grown in England, Belgium, Germany and the USA.

Agronomics
Moderate tolerance to downy mildew, Peronospera, with good pickability of a medium, dense cone.

Yield: 1800 - 2000 kgs. per ha.
1600 - 1800 lbs. per acre

Brewing Quality
Used for its good bittering value similar to Nugget.

Alpha acids: 8-10%
Beta acids: 3.0-5.0%
Alpha:Beta Ratio: 2.7
Cohumulone (% of alpha acids): 25-30%
   
Total Oil (Mls. per 100 grams): 1.5-2.0
Caryophyllene (as % of total oils): 5-10%
Farnesene (as % of total oils): 0%
Humulene (as % of total oils): 20-30%
Myrcene (as % of total oils): 50-60%

Storability is fair to good.
