Alpha King Challenge Europe 2022
The second annual Alpha King Challenge Europe was a resounding triumph!
Over a full day of blind tastings, our expert team of judges, made up of brewers, beer writers, industry professionals and YCH team members, whittled a selection of incredible beers down to 20 finalists - from which one Champion was selected.
Entries came in from every corner of Europe and an incredible rainbow of styles: From West Coast IPAs, pales, hazy juice bombs, IPLs all the way through to Cascadian Dark Ales (but no Barleywines). The common thread between all the beers were that they were hop-forward, high IBU, and delicious across the board!
The winning beers were:
1st Place, crowned this year's European Alpha King
Les Intenables (France)
West Coast Paradise, 6.9% Old School IPA
2nd Place
The Garden Brewery (Croatia)
West Coast Double IPA, 8.1%
3rd Place
St Austell Brewery (UK)
Big Job, 7.2% Double IPA
Honourable Mention
Full Circle Brew Co. (UK)
Wheels on Fire, 6.1% DDH IPA (collab with Brew York)
A huge thank you to our partners for The Alpha King Challenge Europe:
3 Floyds have been an integral part of the Alpha King Challenge globally since the beginning; with their eponymous beer being the inspiration for the competition way back in 1998. It was an honour judging alongside these giants of the American brewing scene.
And our hosts for the European competition Anspach & Hobday, who’s help across the board and fantastic Arch House venue on the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile of London, made bringing the Alpha King Challenge to Europe possible.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the breweries who entered their incredible beers, all the judges who had the hard decision of choosing their favourites, and to everybody who joined us in person or online to celebrate the winner!
We can't wait until next year...
