Davidson Family

3D/BC

Bruce, Bill, and Charlie Davidson are the fourth-generation growers behind 3D Farm, and BC Hop Farm Ltd. is owned by the fifth-generation, Brandon Davidson, Steve Charron, Jacob Pletcher, and James Pletcher, carrying forward a family legacy rooted in the Willamette Valley since the 1940s. Their story began when their father, Jim Davidson, purchased 100 acres of farmland and planted 10 acres of hops, which were hand-harvested. Those early years required grit and precision, setting a standard for quality and work ethic that continues to define their approach to hop farming today.

Innovation has been central to the farm's growth. In 1975, Jim invested in the operation's first Dauenhauer picking machine, along with dryers and baling equipment, marking a major shift in efficiency and capacity. Working side by side with their father, the three brothers purchased the farm in 1983 and steadily expanded its capabilities. A significant milestone came in 1995 with the move to the current facility, outfitted with two Dauenhauer picking machines, seven dryers, and a dedicated cooling and baling room designed to preserve hop quality from harvest through processing.

Today, the farm cultivates over 600 acres of 9 different hop varieties. Sustainability plays a meaningful role in their operations, from utilizing solar panels as a renewable energy source to grinding hop plant waste and returning it to the fields as compost. Beyond the farm, Charlie has served on the Board of Directors for Hop Growers of America and the Oregon Hop Commission. Together, the brothers continue to balance tradition, innovation, and stewardship as they grow into the future.

Thankfully, we can still ask our dads when we need help. You won't find the answer to hop farming on Google. Those guys are the Google when it comes to hop farming.
