Pink Boots Blend

Yakima Chief Hops has partnered with Pink Boots Society, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to women in the brewing profession, to create an annual hop blend in celebration and support of women in beer. This proprietary blend officially named Pink Boots Blend is available to commercial and home brewers and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Pink Boots Society scholarship funds.

Each year, Yakima Chief Hops staff and Pink Boots Society members gather around a table filled with a wide variety of hop samples during the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. The team carefully rubs, smells and experiences each hop sample, and decides on the recipe for the blend to be shipped the following year. The blend is produced and sold by Yakima Chief Hops as traditional T-90 hop pellets with limited availability, and $3 per pound sold is donated to the Pink Boots Society scholarship fund.

Commercial brewers are encouraged to submit preorders by December 15th, which guarantees that their order will be shipped in time to participate in a global brew day celebration for International Women’s Day on March 8th. The Pink Boots Blend also inspires brewers throughout the year to create special beers that celebrate and support all women.

Each year, YCH contributes the sales proceeds from the Pink Boots Blend to the PBS scholarship fund, which helps women in the industry attend educational seminars, classes, certifications and tours. Using the scholarship program, PBS aims to empower women beer professionals to advance their careers through education. Scholarship opportunities are open to women anywhere in the world who are actively employed in the beer industry.

Since 2018, more than $140,000 has been contributed to the Pink Boots Society scholarship fund from the sale of the Pink Boots Blend. With this community-based blend, we are passionate about promoting diversity in both the hop and beer industries, and hope to inspire brewers worldwide to do the same.

The 2020 Pink Boots Blend was chosen by more than 100 PBS members during the 2019 Great American Beer Festival. The blend consists of Azacca®, El Dorado®, Idaho Gem™ and Loral®, creating a blend with tropical, citrus and piney aromatic qualities.
