The Perrault family first settled in Moxee, WA in 1902 when Alberic Perrault traveled by rail from Minnesota, at the age of 18, and was tasked with establishing a homestead for his family. Their rich heritage in the hop community then began in 1928 when Alberic planted his first hops. During these early days, Alberic and his wife Mamie raised their 13 kids on the farm. It has been said, with a bit of hop family humor, that they did so to help manage the 13 acres of their farm. Among the large family was Bernard (Barney) Perrault, who took an interest in the hop industry and along with his wife June, established Perrault Farms in Outlook, WA in 1962. The farm later moved to its current location in Toppenish, WA on the Yakama Indian Reservation in 1968.
Barney and June’s eldest son Steve and his wife Judy have worked the farm together since they were married in 1969. They took over full ownership in 1990. Today, Steve and Judy provide guidance to the fourth generation management team made up of their sons: Jason (CEO), Jeff (VP of Resources and Compliance), Sam (Controller), and cousin Tim Perrault (VP of Operations). The family’s hop tradition continues into the fifth generation with several of Steve and Judy’s grandchildren actively preparing for careers on the farm as well.
Acknowledging their success as one of the premier hop grower operations, Barney and Steve have both received the “Order of the Hop Award” in 1997 and 2009, respectively.
